Info about the Creuse

Auzances is a perfect base for your holiday!

There is always something to do!

It is an intimate small town with the appearance of a village, situated at 450 meters altitude.

In the cozy center you will find several cafes, bakeries, supermarkets, hairdressers, pharmacy and banks with ATM.

Every Tuesday morning there is the lively weekly market!

At a distance of 20 minutes lies Evaux-les-Bains, right at the border of the Limousin and the Auvergne.

It's a soothing way to relax and to let you be pampered in the thermal baths of Evaux les Bains, natural pools, jacuzzi, sauna and massage. Evaux les Bains is an ancient city with over 2,000 years of history which goes back to the Celts and Romans and has about 1800 inhabitants. The city is known for its thermal baths and is the only spa resort in the Limousin. The hot springs of Evaux les Bains are more than 350 million years old and are by nature between 40 and 60 degrees. The season for visiting the spa`s is between March and October. During this period, many French people come for a cure, often on the advice of a doctor.

The center currently focuses also on visitors who just want to use a sauna, hammam and Jacuzzi for a couple of hours. In addition, you can find a variety of treatments such as massage.

Evaux les Bains offers a variety of activities such as fishing, mountain biking, tennis, hiking and horseback riding.

During the summer months many activities are organized such as markets, shows, parties, rallies, and more. Besides a large supermarket, several bakeries, post office, tourist office, hairdresser, a small weekly market on Monday morning and more, Evaux les Bains offers besides a number of restaurants also a casino.

Visit Evaux les Bains also for its rich history. Do not miss the great Roman Church "St Pierre St Paul" which you can see from afar, and the old houses of the city.

The Creuse, an undiscovered part of 'La Douce France'.

You will, like me, instantly fall in love with this department, located in the green heart of France in the Limousin region!

An area with a beautiful unspoiled nature, picturesque traditional villages and towns and many exciting activities such as music festivals, old-fashioned markets and fairs with a wide range of antiques.

This region is part of the Central Massif in France. In this bocage landscape countless rivers flow through the hills and along hedgerows and bushes. It is also known as the green heart of France as well as the best kept secret of France. Here you can enjoy life in the French countryside and nature, peace and space. Additionally the many lakes are characteristic for the Limousin.

An area ideally suited for those seeking tranquility but also for an active holiday. It is a region ideal for cyclists and hikers.

The climate is for its central location a mix of land and sea climate. The average temperatures are several degrees higher than in the UK.

Also, the big cities like Montluçon and Clermont Ferrand, just an hour drive, are well worth visiting.

Do not forget Aubusson, famous for its carpets, or Felletin with its own beer brewery and the Friday market with lots of local organic products.

The second largest lake in France, the Vassivière Lake should definitely not be missed. You can swim at less than six beaches (including a naturist beach).

The Animal Park Coux.

The wolf park Chabrières, where wolves live in the wild.

"Maison du Tapissier" at Aubusson, which is housed in a 16th century building. A nice town with narrow streets, old buildings and its many terraces.

The many gardens, parks and arboretums such as the "arboretum du Lys" at Champagnat.

The golfcourse the "Jonchère" at Gouzon, a perfectly maintained 18 hole course.

"Chapelle Sainte-Marguerite" at Auzances from 1792, where all year round an exhibition is to view from the archaeological sites of the 18th century.

"Chateau d'Arfeuille" at Felletin from the 12th century.

At a distance of 15 minutes from 'Le Colombier' you will find Le pont suspendu, a large suspension bridge where you have to watch out for oncoming traffic.

Nearby lies the ancient chapel "Chapelle Sainte Radegonde". This is an ideal place for a lovely picnic and from this spot you can enjoy the beautiful view of "Le pont suspendu".

Because Auzances lies near the border of the Auvergne, you can easily visit this department where it is worthwhile to go and see the volcanoes, to climb the Puy de Dôme and visit the stunning city Clermont Ferrand.
